THE penultimate round of the Investec Night Relay takes place at North End Lake tomorrow evening from 6pm. Over 120 corporate and social teams have taken up the challenge which sees members of the running and walking teams each completing a 4.2km lap around the lake precinct.
Online entry is available till noon today with late entry taken at the Lake from 4pm tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow’s event will be in support of the Reach for a Dream Foundation’s ‘Reach for your Slippers’ campaign with R10 tickets available for purchase within the registration tent. Schools and companies are being asked to support the hopes of a child by buying a R10 sticker and sliding into their slippers on Friday, August 3. Contributions to this campaign will ensure local dreams are realised.
Registration opens from 4pm with the race starting at 6pm and being followed by the lucky draw prize-giving at 8.30pm. News Cafe ensures the vibe with Charlton Tobias in attendance from 5pm and Gareth Burley on the microphone. Prizes in the evening will include a Nano iPod, a MTN cell phone, a City Lodge Hotels Group luxurious weekend for two, hand-crafted jewellery from Havilah Designers and Pandora, a Solar Installation Voucher from One Solar, Trion:Z active lights from Beautiful You, Goodyear Executive Sports Bags, Car wash from Brilliant Auto Care, Breakfast Vouchers from the City Lodge Hotels Group, a PKF sports bag and a Tracker hamper.

Lake boy heads for Rome
Nelson Mandela Bay’s Jordan Zeelie has been selected to represent South Africa at the World Canoe Marathon Championships in Rome next month after winning the South African U18 Marathon Championships. Zeelie, who uses North End Lake for his training will compete in both the K1 and K2 events at the World Championships. As with most sports, international selection comes with the penalty of having to raise enormous funds to support such an honour.
