The history of Strawdogs MC
The year 1979; a few friends were doing their final year at High school and all had an incredible passion for motorcycles. What fuelled this passion even more was the Annual Buffalo Rally which back then, was still held in the friendly city, Port Elizabeth.
Now these guys decided to “Gate Crash” the Rally and together with other fellow bikers had a party of note, drooling over the “Big” machines. This is where each one of these friends started dreaming of the “machine” he wanted, and would one day make it a reality when they started earning their own money. Amongst them, they made a pack that one day they too will start their very own Motorcycle club.
After matriculating this group of guys all ventured into their different career paths, but still made a point of meeting on weekends to socialise, talk about Bikes and of course – girls. At this stage one of the maats Gregory Barry immigrated to Australia with his family, but still kept in contact with his buddies back in S.A. discussing their big “Plan”.
Gregory went on to design the “Colours” of the club and in Australia, Strawdogs was born and at the time only had 3 members. On his return to S.A. most of the friends had acquired motorcycles and with that Strawdogs MC was officially formed on 14 October 1982. The Club grew to 25 members within the first year of being established, and the guys met every weekend to party up a storm the Strawdogs way.
Strawdogs 1st Anniversary was celebrated as a mini Rally and was held at Maitland River Resort with 120 other enthusiasts joining them. Every year after that Strawdogs celebrated the Anniversary by hosting a Rally with the venues changing from Alexandra to Maitland and more recently Yellowoods, Hankey.
Strawdogs is based on strong camaraderie ship, synergy and is a family orientated club, where wives and children also get involved when it comes to Charity work, the Strawdogs Rally and socializing. Strawdogs has a strong reputation of being one of the best clubs in P.E. and boasts the biggest Rally in the Region.
