Crime Watch Incidents

Break in. The amount of break in's in the Sherwood area are very concerning. All of this is due to the informal settlement on the other side of the railroad line. The thick bushes makes it ideal for burglars to hide and nothing gets done about this. The SAPS are trying their best. Why not approach the residents of the informal settlement and lay some cards on the table? (If these break in's do not stop it could lead to eviction.) Maybe this could lead to a new type of crime watch in the settlement.
2013-02-24 19:40 - WALMER, PORT ELIZABETH
An intruder landed up behind bars after he tried to break into a few homes in Prospect Road, Walmer. The suspect tried to gain entry into the first house, but fled when the owners saw him. He then jumped over the wall and tried the second house. The owner spotted the suspect and chased him. The intruder persisted and jumped into a neighbour's yard attempting to break in there as well. He fled when the owner pressed her panic button. During the chase, Atlas Response officers received information of the suspect's description and the direction he had fled, tracking him down in Seventh Avenue. They handcuffed him and handed him over to the Police. During the investigation, the three homeowners positively identified the perpetrator and opened cases with the Police. Fortunately no entry was gained into the homes and nothing was reported stolen.

Atlas arrested a copper thief in Mavis Avenue, Sidwell. Atlas Response Officers responded to an alarm which was activated at a business in Sidwell Avenue, Sidwell, and apprehended a suspect who was in possession of copper piping. The Police were dispatched and during the investigation, found that no entry had been gained into the business premises. It appeared that the suspect had stolen the copper piping from a business nearby. The Police took the suspect to the Police Station and booked in the stolen items. A case was opened for investigation.
2013-02-14 10:23 - SUNRIDGE PARK, PORT ELIZABETH
A domestic worker got the fright of her life when she noticed an intruder inside her employer's house in Kragga Kamma Road, Sunridge Park, on 14 February at 10:23. The intruder gained entry into the house through an open sliding door. When she saw the intruder, she called on the dogs to attack him and pressed her panic button to alert Atlas. The Response Officers arrived within minutes but the intruder had hastily made his way out of the area. During the investigation, it was established that the intruder had jumped over the palisade fencing and the boundary wall to enter the yard. Fortunately nothing was stolen and the intruder did not cause any damage to the house. The owner opted not to open a case with the Police.
